Spider and Varicose Vein Treatment
Varicose veins are a very common condition resulting from decreased return of blood flow from the leg veins up to the heart, with pooling of blood in the veins. Normally, one-way valves in the veins keep blood flowing toward the heart, against the force of gravity. When the valves become weak and don't close properly, they allow blood to flow backward, a condition called reflux. This leads to the bulging veins known as varicose veins as well as contributing to the formation of spider veins (red) and reticular veins (blue) on or just below the skin surface.
Until recently, the only way to eliminate this abnormal blood flow was to remove the saphenous veins (ligation and stripping). A new excellent alternative to ligation and stripping is endovenous laser treatment, known as EVLT. EVLT is a minimally invasive technique performed in the office with only local anesthesia and mild sedation (if needed), with little to no scarring, and a shortened recovery period. EVLT uses targeted laser energy to seal the vein shut and help you look and feel better fast.
Benefits to EVLT include:
- Treatment in less than an hour.
- Up to 98% success rate.
- Immediate relief of symptoms.
- Return to normal activity immediately – with little or no pain.
- No general anesthesia or hospitalization.
- No scars.
In addition to EVLT, we treat patients using a series of different techniques depending on the diagnosis and treatment plan determined by the doctor. We offer sclerotherapy, ambulatory phlebectomy, laser therapy, and endovenous laser therapy.
